MelenCourses Photography Foundation Course

Beginners guide to learning photography.


Who is the course for?

The aim of the MelenCourses Foundation Photography Course is to provide you with a start in photography. During the four months you will gain confidence in using your camera, your computer and post production software.


Learning and course content

On completing the course you will be confident and capable of using your camera, photography techniques and basic post production, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture. There are Projects which are a great vehicle to practise new ideas, create portfolios and to establish your photographic style.


The skills learned on the MelenCourses Foundation Photography Course will give you the ability to develop your photography skills and your own photographic style.

The course includes 8 hours personal tuition (to be used during and up to three months after the last course date). We are also available by phone and email if you need to talk to us before submitting a module.


You will be expected to

Practise your photography for about four hours each week and allocate about two hours for photography theory each week. As part of MelenCourses Photography Foundation you have
eight hours one to one time with a tutor, which must be used with in 10 weeks of your last photography training session.  You may need to purchase suitable photography kit for some aspects of the training depending what area of photography you are insterested in, please ask us for advice.  There are many types of software which can aid your photography so please check before purchasing and you should have a computer suitable for post production.


Other Courses

There are other courses provided by MelenCourses with are not included in the diploma which you may attend such as the National Trust Photography days, the Free Photography ‘Days Out’, our workshops and seminars.

Beginners photography, you will need no photography experience.


Equipment Needed

DSLR, lenses covering at least 18-135mm, computer, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture 3, cards and spare batteries.  Wireless transmitters or receivers, a decent tripod and a monopod would be useful. If you don't have any of the equipment you are able to use the equipment in the studio, to complete the course you will need to purchase your own.

Photography Foundation Course: £950
Basic DSLR Camera Skills, Lighting & Portraiture, Starting using Flash and a Studio
Beginning Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom 4 or Aperture, and Learn to Use Blogs, Flickr and Facebook for photography.

One to One Tuition
Includes an aditional 10 hours one to one photography tuition to be used with in 8 weeks of your last photography training session.
